Resurrection CYO BasketballResurrection CYO offers a Travel League for our 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls and boys from mid-October through mid-February. Resurrection CYO eligibility rules apply. These teams play games against other parishes in the Westchester/Putnam CYO League. As kids mature, we recognize that children develop at different stages and, in addition, many kids have interests other than CYO basketball. For this age group, each season we host independent try-outs in mid-September to evaluate and place players on teams where they will (a) be comfortable with the competition, and (b) be best positioned to improve their skills.
4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Travel Programs
With open tryouts, there will be a reshuffling of rosters. Depending on the depth of talent in each respective grade and the number of returning players, Resurrection CYO will field teams according to collective skill level. Generally, there will be one "Select" team and two or three additional teams that will be placed in the appropriate WPCYO division. WPCYO divides the league into A, B, and two C divisions.
Player assessments will be conducted by an independent professional coach and two professional basketball referees with many years of experience in Westchester/Putnam CYO. Tryouts are closed to parents. The size of the rosters will depend on the number of registrants, the collective skill level of the grade, and the level of commitment of the players. All children are encouraged to attend so we can establish competitive balance within teams, and so your player has the opportunity to showcase their understanding of the game as well as growth during the off-season. There are usually not “cuts" -- generally, any eligible child who wants to play basketball will have a spot on a team. If your player does not attend the tryouts but is registered to play CYO, we will rely on past performance and feedback from coaches in making a placement determination.
Resurrection CYO aims for fair playing time for each player and we rely on the judgment of our head coaches. For our 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade non-Select teams, player attendance and active participation in practices are requirements for participation in games. The minimum playing time for these teams is one quarter.
