Program Description
Resurrection CYO Basketball
5th Grade Travel Program
Winter Season
Resurrection CYO will offer travel basketball for our 5th grade girls and boys from mid-October through mid-February. Resurrection CYO eligibility rules apply. Fifth grade teams will play games against other parishes in the Westchester/Putnam CYO League. By design, our 5th grade program allows players the opportunity to improve themselves through practice and competitive game exposure. There is a focus on development, sportsmanship, and equitable play. Fifth grade teams will remain generally the same as those from 4th grade. Keeping rosters consistent from 4th grade builds teamwork, camaraderie, and teaches loyalty and how to work through problems. With that said, some players will depart and some new players will join the program, so we will balance teams as needed. The goal is to keep all 5th grade teams competitively balanced. Success should not be based solely on winning or losing, but should be understood in terms of participation, enjoyment and strengthening self-confidence. All fifth grade teams will play in the WPCYO “C” Division.
Resurrection teams practice weekday evenings, generally once a week. League games are played against other parishes on the weekends. The 12-game season schedule is created by the Westchester/Putnam County CYO Director. League games start in late November and end in mid-February. There will usually be one game per weekend. League playoffs are held upon the conclusion of the regular season in mid-to-late February, and early March. The practice and game schedule will be available two weeks before season start.
Minimum playing time is one quarter. Resurrection CYO aims for fair playing time for each player and we rely on the judgment of our coaches. Player attendance and active participation in practices are requirements for participation in games.
